2008 Katie Awards RULES

 2008 Katie Awards

The 2008 Katie Awards of the Press Club of Dallas will be for entries published,  broadcast or disseminated online between July 1, 2007, and June 30, 2008.

It is important that all entries be accompanied by the official entry form filled out completely.   Please note that the completed entry form must be fixed to the outside of each packaged entry.  A letter not to exceed one page may be included with each entry.

Print and photo entries should be placed in a standard 11½x9 manila folder.  For ease of processing, the official entry form must be attached to the outside of the folder.  It is helpful if stories are pasted or taped to standard paper so that judges can read the material sequentially.

Photos must be submitted as 8×10 prints.  Proof of publication, including the date, must accompany the entry.  Prints may be either color or black and white.

Television entries must be on a DVD.  Radio entries must be on a CD.  Television and radio entries must be sealed in a 9X12 envelope.  The official entry form must be attached to the outside of the envelope.

In the online categories, entry material may include written stories, interactive graphics, databases, blogs and still or video images and must be published on the news organization’s Web site during the contest year.  When submitted, the copied material must depict its original publication on the Web, not a subsequent update or alteration. An online link to material must remain active during the judging period.  The URL should be as brief as possible.   Online entries should include copies of the material on standard-size paper and placed inside a standard manila folder.  The official entry form must be attached to the outside of the folder.

All full-time staff members of Texas news organizations who are based and living outside Texas are eligible to enter.  News organizations outside Texas may enter the work of journalists based and living in Texas.  The exception is in the two online categories.  News organizations entering the online categories must be based in Texas.

It is the intent of the Katie Awards to recognize individual excellence in journalism.  However, up to three individuals may be listed on any entry.  If more than three individuals are responsible for the entry, the entry will be considered that of the news organization.  In any case, only one Katie will be awarded in each category.  (Additional Katies may be purchased for those entries with multiple participants.)
